Obama’s Go It Alone Cowboy Diplomacy

- Scott Miller
I thought we were going to make a clean break from the Bush administration’s go it alone – cowboy diplomacy – once the Messiah was elected. While I applaud the Obama administration for carrying on Bush’s war on terror approach in Pakastan, even though they can’t seem to say there is a war on terror, this news has got to drive the hate America, DailyKooks, liberal crowd absolutely nuts… (via BBC):

Deadly missiles strike Pakistan

Two missile attacks from suspected US drones have killed 14 people in north-western Pakistan, officials say.

At least one missile hit a house in a village near the town of Mirali in North Waziristan, a stronghold of al-Qaeda and Taleban militants.

A second suspected drone attack has been reported in South Waziristan, killing five people.

Pakistan has long argued that such strikes are counter-productive and are a violation of its sovereignty.

These are the first drone attacks since Barack Obama was inaugurated as US president on Tuesday.

Pakistani leaders had expressed hope that the new US administration would halt the controversial air strikes, saying they fuelled public anger and complicated Pakistan’s own counter-insurgency efforts.

No UN resolution before we strike? No coalition built to make sure we have at least 100 other countries in agreement with us before we bomb? I thought Obama was a global citizen. I thought he was going to end the “go it alone” attitude of the Bush administration.

You see folks, what we are seeing is the that Obama never really intended to end the Bush administrations approach to the war on terror. They want to play around the edges… try to put up a thin veneer that makes it look like they are making big changes… but they will keep Bush’s tactics in place. You know why? Because they worked…
