Even though I work in NJ, I live in PA… I’m one of the tens of thousands of PA border residents who jump the NJ/PA line to avoid the ridiculous taxation and corruption that is the NJ political system. Working in NJ, and commuting to PA, it’s hard to miss the battle going on in the Republican primary for Gov.
I knew one of the candidates very well. Mayor Steve Lonegan has been running solid conservative issue ads on talk radio for years, trying to make a difference in the swamp that is NJ politics. But since I am a PA resident, I was resigned to pretty much watch the NJ race play out… until I heard the most recent round of attack ads from the so-called leading candidate Chris Christie.
Now, I’m not quite sure who on Christie’s staff thought it was a good idea to attack Lonegan’s flat tax plan… but who ever it was they ought to be summarily fired. They sound just like the Democrat hacks attacking any pro-growth tax policy.
Here is theLonegan plan… you decide:
My flat tax plan will start with a flat tax rate of 2.9% on every dollar earned. The rate will decrease to 2.5% the following year, and further to 2.1% in the third year. Moreover, the rate will only be changed thereafter by a super majority of the state legislature.
The top marginal rate for NJ tax payers is currently something like 9%! It is for this reason that we are stepping off the sidelines, and throwing our support behind Mayor Lonegan’s campaign.
It’s time NJ Republicans run a Reagan conservative… and that man is Mayor Lonegan.
