According to The Hill, Obama has told Republicans that they need to “stop trying to frighten the American people.”
First of all, I don’t know how Obama could have not thought this statement through before he actually said it. The fact is, politicians use scare tactics to try to get their way all the time. The idea of Obama decrying other people’s use of “scare tactics” is painfully hypocritical. This is a man who has used words like “catastrophe” and “disaster” while describing the “Bush economy” that he is now in charge of. Of course he used these words when trying to prove the importance of passing his gargantuan stimulus bills, saying things like “doing a little or nothing at all will result in even greater deficits, even greater job loss, even greater loss of income, and even greater loss of confidence… those are deficits that could turn a crisis into a catastrophe.”
And let’s not forget the ever hopeful and in no way scare tacticky (it’s a word, I just invented it!) “our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse.” I also guess that we should consider suggestions that more people will continue to “die” if we don’t pass a new healthcare bill to be some sort of thoughtful analysis.
The sheer hypocrisy in Obama’s demand that the GOP “stop trying to frighten the American people” is not the only hilarious part. Some of his recent comments such as this and his “stop demeaning me!” comments to fellow Democrats paint a funny picture of Obama getting frustrated and sort of lashing out, practically saying “Hey, don’t you people understand, I’ve got hope and change and I’m supposed to come here and do whatever I want and everyone is going to support me! This is supposed to be easy!”
It would do him well to realize that, as frustrated as he is with the surprising difficulties that he is experiencing, the American people’s frustration with him is apparently even greater.
