The IRS is spending $55 million to send 130 million letters to Americans to tell them something they already know… they’re getting a refund check from the government. This from Fox News:
IRS to Send Out 130 Million Stimulus Payment Notification Letter
WASHINGTON — Don’t be alarmed. More than 130 million households will get letters from the Internal Revenue Service beginning next week and it’s good news, not bad.
The letters are part of an extensive outreach effort to make sure people don’t miss out if they are eligible to receive a tax rebate check under the recently passed $168 billion economic stimulus plan.
The IRS letters will remind people to file a 2007 tax return so they will receive the stimulus payment.
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Treasury and the IRS would work hard to get the word out. “For the majority of Americans, all they will need to do is file a tax return,” Paulson said in a statement
How nice! The IRS is so thoughtful aren’t they? Isn’t it great that they have been so freakin’ thoughtful with my money to tell me something I already freakin’ knew?!!
All taxpayers have to do is file their taxes, and they will get their ”stimulus check”. No need to tell anyone… it just comes in the mail! Is there not one, not one moron, in our government to say to the powers that be…. “uh, Boss… don’t ya’ think most people already know they are getting a refund? Are ya’ sure you want to blow $55 mil on this one?”
